Back up your database! I know you want to skip this step. Just do it!

No, really, Back up your database!

It’s even right there next to where you are going next, so just take a brief moment to backup

After your back up is complete, go ahead and click on “phpMyAdmin”.

Select your database out of the left-hand column. This is the name of the database you should have set up when you were installing WordPress.

From there, your list of tables will show up in the main part of the window.

You are looking for the table called “wp_users”

When you click on this table, you will get the rows listing all of the users on your site.

Change the Username

If you double click in the text field in the column for “user_login”, you can edit the field on this window. Change the “user_login” to the new username, and hit enter.

If you were successful, you should see this popup on your screen:

Congrats, you can close out of everything, and you are done! Log in with your new username using your old password.
